Jan Phillips

About the Artist

Jan grew up in Chicago Heights, Illinois. As a young child, she regularly visited the breathtaking sand dunes with her family. This vacation spot became the original inspiration for her future artwork.

She moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she studied at the Minnetonka and Bloomington Art Centers in a variety of mediums. Her favorite became oils on canvas. She continued with private lessons from artist Marcella Nordseth.

While exploring her style, Jan envisioned a new and unique concept of molding and shaping paper and applying various finishes. Interior designers loved the finishes that resembled metal, leather, fabric, and stone. Jan’s ability to create various shapes and colors led to commissions.

Looking for a warmer climate, Jan moved to Scottsdale Arizona. She became a member of Cornerstone Artists which led to group shows. Her art was enthusiastically received at Es Possible Gallery, Artistic Expressions, Emerson Gallery and The Nash Jazz Club Gallery.

Jan’s current alcohol ink series combines the soft flowing shapes from her previous watercolors and the vibrant colors of ink. Jan has placed 1st and 2nd in The Phoenix Art Guild Juried show as well as gallery representation at Glendale Westgate Gallery and Espirit Décor Gallery.
